Shared Lives - types of placement available

Shared Lives Stoke currently offers the following arrangements:
  • long-term or permanent: An adult with a learning disability may need somewhere to live on a long-term basis, they would, after they have got to know the Shared Lives Carer, move in and become a member of the family home. (Shared Lives Carer would receive an allowance for the care and support the person needs, boarding and lodgings payment and a room rent payment– usually paid by housing benefit)
  • short-term: this could be one night to a few weeks. It may be a one-off or planned on a regular basis. After the adult with a learning disability has got to know the Shared Lives Carer they will stay with the Shared Lives Carer for the agreed time (The Shared Lives Carer receives an allowance for the care and support the need to provide to the person)

Before any placements take place, we carry out the matching to ensure people have common interests and lifestyles. Get to know me visits are arranged and placements only take place when everyone is happy and comfortable.
